UNH Woodsmen Team Hosts 62nd Spring Meet April 18 And 19

The University of New Hampshire woodsmen team will host dozens of teams from the Northeast and Canada at the 62nd annual Spring Meet Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 19 on the UNH campus in Durham. Last year's event, held at Dartmouth, fielded 26 teams from 13 schools. Story >>>

UNH Thompson School to Launch Culinary Arts Program in Fall '08

Beginning fall 2008, the University of New Hampshire will offer a culinary arts program in its Thompson School of Applied Science (TSAS). This unique chef training program will allow students to partner with University Hospitality Services, where they will have the opportunity to cook meals at Holloway Commons dining hall and the university-run New England Center. TSAS Horticultural Graduate Worked At The South Pole

Monique Dulac describes where she spent the last five months as "white and flat" and "like living on a sheet of paper." Dulac, 28, graduate of the Thompson School, returned on Feb. 27 from the U.S. Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station where she worked as a greenhouse technician and did general maintenance. Story >>>

Thompson School Grad Creates Gardening Program For Kids

A new program in town will give young gardeners a chance to grow. Derry Parks and Recreation announces registration for its new Lil' Sprouts Club, a children's gardening class open to youth ages 5 and up. The class is under the guidance of Derry's horticulture technology expert and Thompson School alum Harriet Cohen-Alexander, who tends the town's gardens, plantings and floral designs at various locations around the community. She also works in the greenhouse at Don Ball Park off Humphrey Road, and when the season is right, she grows flowers and plants until they are ready to move to other spots in Derry. Story >>>

Forest Technology Professor wins Woodsmen Title

Don Quigley, Professor of Forest Technology at the Thompson School of Applied Science at UNH out paced 21 other competitors and won the Master’s Division at the 2007 Fryeburg Fair Woodsmen’s Field Day. Story >>>

Megan Bujnowski Placed 3rd at the Game of Logging Collegiate Finals

Megan Bujnowski, of Hudson, New Hampshire, is a NRCS engineering aid under the Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP) and a second year University of New Hampshire (UNH) student in Forestry Technology. Megan served this past summer on a NRCS survey team that completed 50 surveys across the state. Megan is involved with the UNH Woodsmen Team, which is a university-recognized co-ed sports club and is sponsored by Campus Recreation. Recently, Megan placed third at the national Game of Logging Collegiate & Landowner Finals at Paul Smith’s College in Paul Smith, New York during October 19 & 20, 2007. Story >>>
