Prospective Students

Thank you for your interest in the Thompson School of Applied Science Food Service Management specializations. As professors, we are excited to share information about our dynamic programs with prospective students. Our first-rate curriculum, faculty and facilities provide students with many opportunities for hands-on learning. In addition to courses in food preparation, Restaurant Management students gain skills in managing both the dining room and the kitchen. Dietetic Technician students learn classroom skills in providing nutrition education and counseling which they apply in their second year in the community and healthcare settings.

We are located on the campus of a major university that offers lots of exciting activities for students. The Thompson School is a smaller community within the larger university which allows professors to be on a first-name basis with all of our students. We offer an environment that is friendly, helpful and most importantly, fun.

The University Advising and Career Center offers many services such as resume writing, mock interviews, and career fairs that will help you in your job search during your second year. Should you choose to continue your education, your professors will advise and assist you in transition to a four-year program.

Our Program Advisory Committees keep us aware of current developments our fields and we are always asking ourselves, “How can we make our curriculum better?” As a result, in the fall of 2008, we will be expanding our program to include Culinary Arts to meet the growing demands of the industry.

Our facilities include two commercial kitchens, and two in-house operations. Dietetic Technician students work in many of the area hospitals and community agencies. Restaurant Management students gain excellent experience in a wide variety of restaurants during their summer work experiences.
