Guy Petty

Guy Petty

professor of civil technology & chair

A teaching veteran of the Thompson School, Guy Petty is a registered architect, who worked in large and small architectural offices until he opened his own practice in Portsmouth, N.H. He brings his 30 plus years of experience to the classroom as the core professor of the architectural technology specialization. Guy takes a problem-based approach to teaching, encouraging his students to learn by tackling a real world problem. Under his guidance, architecture students concentrate on a project that serves as the basis of a portfolio after graduation.

Guy has lived and worked in Central America and Europe as well as the U.S. He likes to be engaged with his community, having served on his town's Zoning Board of Appeals, the Restoration Advisory Board for Superfund ToxicWwaste Sites, a museum board of directors, the Kittery Port Authority, and as trustee of a local art association. For fun, he is a commercial lobsterman and enjoys activities such as boat building and fishing.

Advice for first-year students:

Take responsibility for your own learning process and capitalize on all the opportunities the university has to offer that interest you.

Bob Moynihan

Bob Moynihan

professor civil technology and adjunct professor of civil engineering

Bob Moynihan left industry to teach more than 25 years ago because of two things: "I love to learn and I love to share that knowledge with others and to help them advance in their careers and lives." Since he left industry, a great deal has changed. Bob keeps abreast by maintaining his license as a registered professional engineer, a licensed land surveyor, and a licensed septic system designer. He takes satisfaction in helping students share in the excitement, challenges, and the satisfaction of working in the fields of architecture, engineering, construction, and surveying today.

Education:

M.B.A. Akron University, 1973
B.S.C.E. University of New Hampshire, 1968

After school:

Bob is an avid reader of anything to do with history and the "woods."

Advice for first-year students:

I try to teach my students three things: be a lifelong learner; be thorough and correct in your work, and appreciate the proper place for family, friends and work in your life.
